Satellite TV Dilemma?
This is my site Written by Installer on January 19, 2010 – 4:57 am

About a year ago now my family moved into a townhouse we rent. We brought along our satellite equipment, but once it was installed we were contacted by the rental management company ordering us to take it down as we were damaging their property. We got cable instead.

Flash forward a few months (after seeing how crappy our cable was), we got a guy out from Directv to see if he could set a dish up in our backyard. He said it was impossible, although i’m not sure if it was just because he didn’t bring along a pole big enough to make it work.

So now I have a few questions.

1. If the OWNER of our townhouse agrees to allow us to put up a dish, could the townhouse community still order us to take it down even with his permission to have it up?

2. Is it really feasible to get about a six+ ft. pole that will allow the dish to reach above the fence around our house and get us a signal?

Thanks for your help guys.

  1. yes they can still tell you to take it down its in the contract of your townhouse community you had to sign one when you moved in and you have to abide to the contract or move so the 2nd question is yea but its not a pole it will be a 4×4 timber a steel post would sway too much in the winds and storms so a 4×4 timber will have to be cemented in the ground but i call a townhouse community meeting and get their votes first before doing anything

  2. No, they cant if it is not on HOA community property. The FCC has made a ruling nationwide that the HOA cannot keep you from getting satellite tv on your property.

Go to: http://www.sathookup.com/satellite-network/index.php to find a local satellite installer.

Tell them you need a premium installation, which will be nice and neat so the HOA doesn’t complain
